When I first started this newsletter, the goal was simple: attract enough paid subscribers so that I could scrape together a living writing about football. Easier said than done.
While some of the content I have put out has done well, the overall numbers do not lie. Beyond perhaps an overly-optimistic sense of things in the very beginning, I have always been realistic about my chances of success and have put hard timelines on myself — in this case, my plan was to go for one more season and see if I could hit 200 paid subs (the most I had was 60). If I failed, I would move on from writing about (and possessing aspirations to work in) football entirely due to unavoidable financial realities.
However, for a variety of reasons (including my inability to deliver consistent, quality output), I have come to believe that achieving said goal is unrealistic and pursuing it will be an example of sunk-cost fallacy. Thus, I am choosing to end Tactical Rant and pursue other avenues for the remainder of the season (I have nothing lined up at the moment, although I do have some plans). I will probably come back from time to time to post the occasional article when I have the free time, but Tactical Rant as a paid venture is over.
Therefore, effective immediately, all payments from subscribers will be paused permanently. There is no need to cancel or take any action on your part. However, you can still do that if you wish.
If you have recently renewed a monthly or yearly subscription, you can email me for a refund. I will refund one month’s worth of subscription costs for the former and the entire yearly subscription cost for the latter if you renewed in the last two months. If you have a yearly subscription and renewed in June or before but still want a refund, I will offer a refund based on the amount of months left on the subscription.
All you have to do is email me (omarvindsports@gmail.com) and request a refund, including your preferred money transfer option (something like PayPal or Venmo). Please make sure that you use the email that you signed up with, so I can check my database and see what subscription you have.
Thanks to everyone who read and shared my work and thanks, especially, to those who subscribed.
Om Arvind ....
Thank you for your follow up regarding the payment issue I posted. It speaks volumes about your integrity that you did so following your announcement that you closed down your site.
After reviewing all the documentation, and following your suggestion to check my credit card billing, no funds were attributed to Tactical Rant. I wish I had double checked my credit card usage, as I normally do when there is a problem, in order to avoid my mistake.
That said, I am not trying to make excuses for my initial reaction. It was wrong and I am hope you will accept my apology. Should there be any downstream impact, please do not hesitate to use this posting or contact me accordingly. I will also delete my original comment accordingly.
Sincerely, Michael Saunders
No refund necessary. Hoping you find another vehicle whereby your insight can be read and shared. Best of luck!
